Round 5 – Match 6 Results: Manly Sea Eagles 40 v Cronulla Sharks 12

Sharks fans hopeful of a return to form were sorely disappointed on Sunday afternoon when Cronulla were once again well beaten for their fourth loss this season, this time by the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval.

In their third successive victory for 2010, Manly won by an easy 28 points bringing them up to number five on the NRL ladder with classy centre Jamie Lyon and winger Michael Robertson each scoring themselves a match double.

The recently returned Tim Smith scored a thrilling try for the Sharks just four minutes into the match and Nathan Stapleton’s conversion saw the visitors hold their only lead of the game.

In the 16th minute Jamie Lyon began the Sea Eagle’s dominance, scoring and then converting his own try to tie the teams six all.

From there the match belonged to Manly through and through and the Sharks were unable to score again in the first half.

Meanwhile the Eagles managed to grab themselves four more first-half tries, one each to Michael Robertson, Glenn Stewart, Trent Hodkinson and Matthew Cross, all within 15 minutes.

Lyon converted all four and Manly cruised to a 30 – 6 lead heading into half-time.

The second half was much of the same, the lacklustre Sharks seemingly having given up and only scoring one consolation try when Grant Millington put one down in the 67th minute and the conversion bringing their final score to a dismal 12 points.

On the other side, the Sea Eagles came out with all guns firing having a great time in the last 40 minutes scoring twice more, Lyon and Robertson with their second of the night in the 53rd and 75th minutes. Lyon missed his own but converted the final try giving them an impressive 40 point total.
