2010 NRL Round 7 Match & Betting Previews

MELBOURNE STORM SALARY CAP SCANDAL

The Rugby League world was rocked this week with the news of the Melbourne Storm salary cap scandal, which saw the once celebrated club stripped of its two premiership titles, their three minor premiership wins, all of their 2010 competition points and fined a total in excess of $1.5 million.

Melbourne will continue to play in the 2010 NRL Telstra Premiership, but not for points. It is without doubt the biggest shock the NRL and Australian sport has seen in many, many years and will have huge implications for the remainder of the season.

Every club that has lost to the Storm, primarily the Parramatta Eels and Manly Sea Eagles who were runners-up to Melbourne in the Grand Finals of 2009 and 2007 respectively, feel ripped off and rightfully so.

A new challenge has thus been set for all 16 of the NRL clubs, Melbourne included, to repair some of the Storm’s damage, to play with a passion that they have never played with before and bring some of the respect for the great game that is Rugby League back to the fans and the public.

That is why Round 7 of the 2010 NRL Premiership is set to be one of the most intense and interesting of the entire season, as clubs fight for what they deserve and try to put behind the anger and confusion of the week’s revelations.

So then, one of the most anticipated matches this round will be on Sunday when the disgraced and devastated Storm must find a way to rise above it all when they host the New Zealand Warriors. Can coach Craig Bellamy install in his players enough energy to go out and play for pride alone?

But of course nothing can take away for the scheduled ANZAC Day highlight, when the now hot-favourites for the premiership, St George Illawarra Dragons face off against the in-form Sydney Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium.

Below is a preview of all eight Round 7 NRL games, betting odds and a breakdown of each team’s chances this week.
