NRL Round 10 – Match 3 Preview: Canberra Raiders v Melbourne Storm

Saturday’s match should be a beauty as the Raiders play the Storm down at Canberra Stadium. The Raiders are usually unstoppable at home, and with the Storm coming off an embarrassing loss to the Broncos last week, there will be tension aplenty in this match.

Canberra are currently at number 11 on the ladder, not too bad when you consider teams like the Cowboys are at number 14. After a Round 9 rest and a last-game win ahead of the Warriors, the Raiders should come into this match with a fair bit of confidence.

Melbourne, on the other hand, have had a rough week. Many of their star players will be feeling a bit worse for wear after playing rep footy last Friday and then backing up in a disappointing game on Sunday arvo.

One Storm player in such a position is Billy Slater, who after having been put on report for a foot-first tackle to try and stop Jharal Yow Yeh from scoring in their loss to the Broncos, has since been cleared to play against the Raiders.

This will make for one good faceoff between the fullbacks, as the Raiders 19-year-old wonder Josh Dugan is in top form and impressing Origin selectors, fans and his team more and more each week.

But the Storm’s big loss last week that is sure to impact them again is hooker, captain and star kicker Cameron Smith, out with an elbow injury.

Despite the inconsistency of the Raiders, we think they can win here in an upset and represent excellent value currently paying $2.60 through And even though everyone is saying the Storm will be looking to heal their wounded pride this round, Canberra just isn’t the place to do it.

With a bye, home ground advantage, star fullback, plenty to play for in terms of making the top eight, if the Raiders don’t win here they have no excuses.

Current Head-to-Head Odds: Raiders $2.30 – Storm $1.62
