NRL Round 10 – Match 8 Preview: Manly Sea Eagles v Parramatta Eels

Monday night’s match, the final of the Heritage Round, should be another ripper as the number threes, Manly, play at Brookvale Oval against the Eels in the grudge game of the round.

There is a long standing rivalry rife with bitterness between these two and this is an excellent match to close the round with.

Parramatta had a bye last week, while Manly are in red-hot form coming off two big wins including last round’s magic 24 – 6 victory ahead of the Dragons.

Prior to their bye the Eels, number six on the ladder, were also in great form on their way to big resurgence after a dismal start to the season. While some other teams in the comp would have been grateful for last week’s bye to regroup after a few losses, the break probably came at a bad time for the Eels who were finally getting into the swing of things, and the disruption may have marred their momentum.

Parramatta have won their last three from three, but are away from home and facing some very tough competition here.

The Eels will also be feeling the pressure of facing off against five of their former players as Jamie Lyon, Tony Williams, Trent Hodkinson, Joe Galuvao and Ben Farrar now don the maroon and white jerseys.

This is the second time this season these two have met after their close Round 2 showdown when the Eels came away with a narrow four point victory that was achieved after a missed forward pass by Parra’s Kris Keating.

On Monday night it will be Manly who start as the favourites, currently at $1.57 through Ladbrokes.com.au while the Eels are out to $2.45. And don’t think that the Sea Eagles won’t be keen to keen to avenge for round two.

But despite the Round 2 blunder, the Sea Eagles have the heads-up stat wise having won six of the past eight of their games against the Eels.

This should be a close one, with Manly brimming with confidence and the Eels finally in-form and starting to show some of last year’s greatness.

Still, we like the Sea Eagles in this one. But the value bet with a better than average chance of winning is definitely the Eels, especially if Manly let their guard down in the second half or give away too many opportunities through penalties against them, for which they have been terrible for this season.

But boasting the most tries scored this season by any side, Manly are dangerous to bet against especially at Brookvale.
