2010 NRL Round 11 Match & Betting Previews

Following last weekend’s Heritage Round, the announcement of the State of Origin teams this week, and Origin game one set to light up ANZ Stadium next Wednesday night, the atmosphere is electric for Rugby League fans as the 2010 NRL Telstra Premiership moves into round 11.

Round 10 featured eight classic Heritage matches, and as always quite a few big upsets. In the opening Queensland derby on Friday night the Broncos silenced many of their critics who said they couldn’t back up their impressive victory over the Storms from round nine, by defeating the Gold Coast Titans 28 – 6.

All three Queensland clubs have a bye this week including the Cowboys, ensuring themselves two more competition points, but will this stop the momentum Brisbane have finally found?

North Queensland added the shock late inclusion of captain Johnathan Thurston into their squad last week, but it still wasn’t enough as they went down 24 – 12 to the Warriors, so a break this round will be well enjoyed by the Cowboys.

The other teams with a bye this week are Melbourne Storm, Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea Eagles.

The current premiership leaders got their season back on track last week, as the St George Illawarra Dragons atoned for their round nine loss to Manly and beat the Bulldogs 19 – 6.

This week the Dragons should have an easy home ground game against the Raiders, while the Bulldogs face off against the Panthers in Penrith on Monday night.

In the Heritage round the Panthers handed Cronulla yet another loss, and this week won’t be any easier for the Sharks when they play the resurgent Eels, now boasting four successive wins after their 19 – 12 win ahead of the Sea Eagles last Monday night.

The other big victory of the Heritage round was the time-honoured Tigers v Rabbitohs clash at the SCC, where South Sydney thrashed Wests 50 – 10, one of the biggest winning margins in NRL history.
