2010 NRL Round 14 Match & Betting Previews

With State of Origin II less than a week away, we have another split round of the 2010 NRL Telstra Premiership this weekend featuring five top showdowns.

Last round was a beauty, with the NRL ladder rearranged after some surprise wins. Round 14 opened with the Wests Tigers beating the Bulldogs 19 – 12 in a grinding game at the end of which the Tigers finished as the fifth team in the competition. This week both teams have a bye, which the Bulldogs having suffered their fifth straight loss, will be thankful for.

The four other teams with a bye and a guaranteed two competition points this week are the Parramatta Eels, Penrith Panthers, Cronulla Sharks and the top team in the NRL right now, the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The other Friday night footy match from last week was the much awaited face off between the Eels and the Storm. Meeting for the first time since last year’s Grand Final, it was Parramatta who came out firing on Friday storming home to defeat Melbourne 24 – 10.

While the Eels, back in the top eight, have a bye this week, the Storm must back up on Monday night when they look set to defeat the Roosters at AAMI Park.

Last week the erratic Roosters went down in an embarrassing 42 – 18 loss to the Sharks, and will be low on confidence coming into their match with Melbourne.

Other notable wins from Round 14 included the Panthers dominant 28 – 10 win ahead of the Knights, Penrith now the number two team on the ladder; and the Broncos securing their fourth consecutive victory with an important 22 – 6 victory ahead of the Sea Eagles, which pushed Manly down to fourth spot on the ladder.

The question this week is whether the Broncos have the depth to make it five in a row when they face a tough test against the Rabbitohs, and many are also asking whether Manly will be able to regain their form and take down the Titans on Friday night.
