NRL Round 16 – Match 6 Preview: Gold Coast Titans v Newcastle Knights

The Titans look in a prime spot to stay in the top four this week as they enjoy a home game at Skilled Park against the low ranking Knights.

The Gold Coast are in great for right now with so many shining stars really stepping up to the pressure of mid-season footy. They are coming into this match on the back of two consecutive victories, but last week’s 25 – 24 win over the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium was a really close one.

The Titans nearly gave away a 24 – 6 lead in the last quarter as they struggled without Preston Campbell, ruled out after bruising his heel pre-match, and Scotty Prince who tore his hamstring in the 25th minute of the match.

Without Prince and his kicking the Gold Coast need to dig deep, but with players like Bird ready to rise to the challenge, Preston returning and the home crowd behind them they should be able to win this one.

Newcastle are down in the 12th spot on the ladder after losing three of their past four. They did hang on for a narrow 6 – 4 win over the Eels last week, but they don’t have the class to match the Titans.

No surprise then that the Gold Coast are the pronounced $1.48 favourites through Ladbrokes.com.au, with the Knights the $2.65 underdogs.

We are definitely sticking with the home side here. The Titans finished 3rd on the ladder last season, can they do one better this year? A big win Sunday arvo will be a start.
