NRL Round 18 – Match 1 Results: Wests Tigers 15 v 14 Gold Coast Titans

Round 18 kicked off on Friday night with a thrillingly close showdown by two top teams, the Wests Tigers narrowly hanging on to defeat a determined Titans 15 – 14 at Campbelltown Stadium in front of 14,000 fans.

Back from the break it was more of the same as both teams fought hard, the tension reaching a peak in the 59th minute. After packing a scrum a brawl exploded, with Tigers captain Robbie Farah accusing Nathan Friend of head-butting him.

Gold Coast back rower Mark Minichiello was sent off to the sin bin for 10 after getting involved and despite the Titans putting on a gallant display without him, it was the Tigers’ Blake Ayshford who was next to score with a converted try in the 66th minute.

Four minutes later Kevin Gordon got over for the Titans after pouncing on a Scott Prince kick and the see-sawing on the scoreboard continued. Rogers’ kick then brought them within one point. But with no more points scored it was Marshall’s close field goal that decided the win.
