NRL Round 22 – Match 1 Preview & Tips: Nth Qld Cowboys v Brisbane Broncos

Round 22 kicks off on Friday night with a Queensland derby between the struggling Cowboys and the rising Broncos at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville.

North Queensland are now well out of the race for the finals having suffered their fifth loss in six weeks last week against the Panthers, but the team captained by Johnathan Thurston are still set to show the Broncos how things are done up North.

Brisbane kept their September footy dream alive last round holding on to defeat the Dragons 10 – 6 and will come into this match full of confidence, but perhaps a little worn after last week’s efforts.

These two played each other in the opening round this year, the Broncos posting a six point victory over the Cowboys making it six straight against their fellow Queensland team.

After the seasons both have had it again looks like Brisbane will come away with the win, but it is sure to be a close contest.

There is plenty to look forward to in this match that is sure to go down to the wire as many of the Maroon reps from this year’s Origin series face off.

With Lockyer and Thurston on opposite sides it will be a battle between mates not to miss with JT sure to rise to the occasion and bring the rest of the Cowboys along with him for a great fight.

The Broncos are the obvious favourites, currently paying $1.50 for a win through, while the out of form Cowboys are at the long odds of $2.60.

History up at Dairy Farmers is also on the visitors side as they haven’t lost up there since 2007 and it doesn’t look like that will change on Friday.

A must win for Brisbane to stay in the top eight.
