NRL Round 23 – Match 4 Results: Canterbury Bulldogs 14 v 28 Canberra Raiders

The Raiders put in another dominant performance on Saturday night when they travelled to Sydney and claimed a comprehensive victory over the Bulldogs, their fifth win from their past six.

Canberra, who were able to beat the Panthers the previous Round, are still a long shot chance of making the finals as they are on equal competition points with the Eels and the Rabbitohs sitting in 11th spot.

The Bulldogs, however, have said goodbye to September footy after back-to-back losses.

The Raiders were first to score just three minutes into the match on Saturday when livewire fullback Josh Dugan got in an early four-pointer after stepping past two defenders, the try converted by Jarrod Croker.

But a strong first half performance by the Bulldogs saw Canberra soon fall behind on the scoreboard as Canterbury got in three tries to lead at half time.

Opening their account in the ninth minute with try by skipper Andrew Ryan, the Doggies then scored through Bryson Goodwin off a grubber kick and Junior Tia-Kilifi in the corner, with Goodwin converting one from three to push them to a 14 – 6 lead.

With a minute left before the break, the Green Machine’s captain Alan Tongue got in their second converted try to narrow the margin 14 – 12 heading into the break.

After trailing at half time, the Raiders came back refocused in the second half and were able to run away with a tidy win after scoring three more unanswered tries.

Jarrod Crocker scored and converted his own try in the 47th minute after an impressive 90m run, followed by a 61st effort by Daniel Vidot and then Josh McCrone put the result beyond doubt with the final match try in the 65th minute.
