NRL Round 24 – Match 6 Betting Tips: Canberra Raiders v St George Illawarra Dragons

The Raiders are still a long shot chance of making the top eight this year but they must win their match this round when they host the table-topping Dragons at Canberra Stadium on Sunday arvo.

In 11th spot on the ladder with 24 competition points the Raiders mathematically can still be here in September and Ladbrokes.com.au have them at $6 to ‘Make the Top 8’.

But a loss on Sunday will see all that come to an end and it is a huge game playing the competition leaders.

Canberra come into this match on the back of two straight wins ahead of the Panthers and the Bulldogs giving them five victories from their past six, and have the home ground advantage here.

Premiership favourites at $2.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au, St George have also won both their games over the past fortnight thrashing the Roosters and the Sea Eagles.

Obviously the Dragons are the favourites for Sunday at $1.65 to win through Ladbrokes.com.au, but at $2.25 the Raiders can’t be written off just yet.

The home side have more to play for and proved they could sleigh the Dragons back in Round 11 when they won by eight.

Still, with St George at nearly full strength with the return of skipper Ben Hornby and with the shield now in their sights, it is hard to go past the Red V’s here.

The Dragons are a classy and professional outfit and if they stay composed and aren’t too smug too early then they should hold on in a physical and close result.

But if you are looking for an upset the Green Machine could provide it as they have only been defeated by St George once since 2004 and are on a seven-straight winning streak in the ACT.

Whoever you back, expect a high scoring affair full of surprise plays.
