Sydney, however, are now down in sixth spot after losing three straight games and have a tough two weeks before the end of the season.

The Chooks were first to score on Monday night with skipper Braith Anasta crossing for an early four-pointer after latching onto a deft Mitchell Pearce pass just five minutes into the match.

Todd Carney converted the try and the home side were up 6 – 0.

The Gold Coast were quick to answer back, Clinton Toopi scoring his first of an eventual two tries on the night in the 11th minute.

The score was tied six all following Scott Prince’s conversion.

In a tightly matched first 40 the only other try went to the Titans Kevin Gordon in the 36th minute so his team went to the break leading 10 – 6.

In the second half the Roosters got off to a good start when Shaun Kenny-Dowall scored their second in the 46th minute to bring them to a 10 all deadlock.

But the Titans took back the lead 10 minutes later when Bodene Thompson scored another converted try and then Toopi completed his double in the 66th minute getting over in the corner  with Prince’s kick pushing them to a 22 – 10 advantage.

In the final 10 minutes the Gold Coast were taking no chances and in the 75th minute Prince kicked a field goal to give them a total of 23 points for the night.

Anthony Minichiello scored a late consolation try for the Chooks with three minutes left on the clock, his 100th try for the team, but it was too little too late and the visitors came away with the two competition points and a guaranteed home game during the finals.
