NRL Round 4 Odds & Preview – Telstra Premiership 2012

We are now a month into the 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership and what a great few weeks it’s been already.

NRL Round 4 should be no different with a match and clash to suit all NRL fans and punters, even those in Perth thanks to the specially scheduled opener in WA tonight between the Broncos and the Rabbitohs.

The top two positions on the NRL Ladder haven’t changed from last week with the much improved Canterbury Bulldogs and the back-in-the-competition Melbourne Storm battling it out with six competition points each.

Did you have either of these teams down in the futures NRL Telstra Premiership Winners markets at bookmaker.com.au?

2012 NRL Telstra Premiership Round 4

Friday March 23, 2012 (6:00pm) – NIB Stadium

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs ($2.16) v Brisbane Broncos ($1.72) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

These are very juicy odds on a Rabbitohs side that come off a confidence boosting 40 – 24 win over the Panters last Sunday. Brisbane won their match last week too beating the Knights 24 – 10, but really it should have been about 50 – 10 with the Broncos doing everything but scoring for the opening 40. South Sydney won this clash in Perth last year in the wet, so would be hesitant to take Brisbane at that short price.

Friday March 23, 2012 (7:30pm) – Parramatta Stadium

  • Parramatta Eels ($2.00) v Penrith Panthers ($1.84) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Eels get the home ground advantage, but will it be enough for them to break their 2012 maiden? They were thrashed 42 – 6 by the Cowboys up in Townsville last week and didn’t look like they wanted to be there or even in the League. Panthers weren’t much better against Souths, they got 24 points on the board sure, but letting the Rabbitohs cross for 40 shows a lagging defense.

Saturday March 24, 2012 (7:30pm) – Mt Smart Stadium

  • New Zealand Warriors ($1.22) v Gold Coast Titans ($4.40) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

You don’t see $4.40 NRL odds this early in the season often, but in this case it’s totally justified. The Titans are struggling to stay afloat not just on the ladder but financially as a team, déjà vu anyone?  They only scored once at home against the Storm last week so travelling to NZ to take on the Kiwis they really don’t stand a chance.

Saturday March 24, 2012 (7:30pm) – WIN Jubilee Oval

  • St George Illawarra Dragons ($1.71) v Manly Sea Eagles ($2.18) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

There are lots of games for the Sydney fans in Round 3 and this one is a real cracker. The Dragons were good, very good against the Tigers last weekend while Manly got beaten by the Sharks of all teams. But really those odds on the Sea Eagles for Saturday are tempting, they will be wanting to bounce back and St George aren’t famous for their winning back-ups.

Saturday March 24, 2012 (8:30pm) – Dairy Farmers Stadium

  • North Queensland Cowboys ($1.41) v Cronulla Sharks ($2.95) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Second home game in a row for the Cowboys, the NRL gods are smiling. North Queensland easily got the better of the Eels 42 – 6 last week and they will be going into this one confident. Let’s just hope that confidence doesn’t lead to silly mistakes as the Sharks proved that on a good night they can beat anyone, even the Sea Eagles.

Sunday March 25, 2012 (2:00pm) – AAMI Park

  • Melbourne Storm ($1.23) v Sydney Roosters ($4.30) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Ahh the Roosters. The Chooks really do look cooked for 2012 already don’t they. Sydney may have beaten the Raiders last week but the 14 – 8 score was close and whether they can go back-to-back against any crew, let along the Storm, is questionable. Melbourne are flying this year and struck hard against the Titans last week on the Gold Coast. It wasn’t a gut buster for them, however, and they are worthy of the short price.

Sunday March 25, 2012 (3:00pm) – ANZ Stadium

  • Canterbury Bulldogs ($1.45) v Newcastle Knights ($2.80) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Doggies are top of the ladder and deservedly so at this stage. Whether they can keep it up for another 22 rounds is a query but they should be okay here. Were too good for the hit-and-miss Kiwis in NZ last weekend, so back in Sydney against the Knights who had to work hard against the Broncos last round should be an easy one for Canterbury.

Monday March 26, 2012 (7:00pm) – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

  • Wests Tigers ($1.43) v Canberra Raiders ($2.90) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

The Tigers are a tricky team to follow. While they were in nearly every experts NRL Top 4 tips pre-season, they haven’t done much this year to really say they can do it. Going down 23 – 12 to St George last week would have hurt and while the Raiders had a tough one against the Roosters, how both teams back up here will be key. Tempted to take the Raiders at that price.
