2012 NRL Odds, Preview & Betting – Heritage Round 5

This weekend we move into Round 5 of the 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership and as always there is plenty of action on the cards for the fans and punters.

Round 5 is the Men Of League Heritage Round and the match line-ups pay tribute to the grand rivalries of the beautiful game that is Rugby League.

This means there are going to be some passion-fuelled games full of big hits and possible brawls for those that don’t mind a bit of NRL biff.

Of course the headline match of the Round will be the Wests Tigers take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the much awaited Sydney derby at Allianz Stadium.

So what’s in stall for NRL Round 5?

See below for the full list of team match-ups and what they are in honour of, kick-off times, venues and of course those all-important NRL odds so you know where the value is at with your bookmaker.com.au NRL bets!

2012 NRL Telstra Premiership Round 5

Friday March 30, 2012 (7:30pm) – Suncorp Stadium

20th Anniversay of 1992 Grand Final

  • Brisbane Broncos ($1.56) v St George Illawarra Dragons ($2.50) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

This is an interesting betting market, it really is. Brisbane may be at home, but their odds are short. They come off what can only be described as a bitter sweet win over the Rabbitohs in Perth last Friday night when they lost star winger Yow Yeh to a season-ending compound fracture. And they are still without Parker.

St George also come off a win, a good one over the Sea Eagles, surely this alone makes them a good value bet?

Friday March 30, 2012 (7:30pm) – AAMI Park

Celebrating 15 Years of the Storm

  • Melbourne Storm ($1.37) v Newcastle Knights ($3.15) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Storm are the shorties and with reason. Starting to look more and more like the team to beat and they barley had to try in their 44 – 4 romp over the Roosters last week.

They are in form, home ground advantage and want to get back in the good books for once and for all.

Knights beat the Bulldogs last Sunday so are on a short back-up. While they won, the Doggies didn’t put up much of a fight and they won’t have gained too much confidence.

Saturday March 31, 2012 (5:30pm) – Centrebet Stadium

45th Anniversary of Entering the Competition

  • Penrith Panthers ($1.70) v Cronulla Sharks ($2.20)  – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Sharks upset the Cowboys up in Townsville last Saturday by a try at this kind of price, and we like them to do it again. Panthers smashed the Eels last Friday, but who couldn’t have really.

Penrith will have the crowd support but Cronulla have ours.

Saturday March 31, 2012 (7:30pm) – Parramatta Stadium

30th Anniversary of the 1982 Grand Final

  • Parramatta Eels ($3.45) v Manly Sea Eagles ($1.33) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Really $3.45 is short for the Eels for ours. They have done absolutely nothing this season, and that includes win a single match.

They are at home but that means little and while Manly looked to have lost a little of their shine recently, this one should be easy prey to get them back in form.

Saturday March 31, 2012 (7:30pm) – Allianz Stadium

10th Anniversary of the 2002 Grand Final

  • Sydney Roosters ($2.54) v New Zealand Warriors ($1.54) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Ahhh, what has happened to the Roosters since that smashing 2002 Grand Final and now? Lots of controversy for one. They were pitiful, to be nice, against Melbourne last Sunday and can’t see them challenging the Warriors here.

Sunday April 1, 2012 (2:00pm) – Skilled Park

  • Gold Coast Titans ($2.60) v Canterbury Bulldogs ($1.52) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

The Titans looks unbeatable here……Happy April Fool’s Day punters!

Really the Gold Coast have become one of those teams we won’t be tipping anywhere against any rivals. The sparkle has well and truly worn off and they will be weary after a trip across the Tasman only to go down by 20.

Bulldogs were also very disappointing last Sunday when they lost to Newcastle. They are going to need to learn how to back up and score to be any kind of Top 8 chance.

Sunday April 1, 2012 (3:00pm) – Allianz Stadium

60th Anniversary of the 1952 Grand Final

  • Wests Tigers ($2.42) v South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.59) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Here’s the big one of the round, where do your alliances lie? Tigers are at nice odds after they lost in an upset to Canberra last Monday night. They are also on the shorter back-up so may struggle for fitness, but the thing with Wests is when you don’t think they will win they do.

Rabbitohs lost to the Broncos despite everything going Souths way last Friday. Still they have had time to regroup and recover.

Monday April 2, 2012 (7:00pm) – Canberra Stadium

Monday Night Footy Returns to Canberra

  • Canberra Raiders ($1.65) v North Queensland Cowboys ($2.28) – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Be backing the Raiders even at $1.01 in this. They are back home where they play their best and would have gained confidence from their 30 – 16 win over Wests this time last week. Get a full 7 days in between from a Monday night match which is rare.

Cowboys went from a Round 3 high to a Round 4 low when they lost by six to the Sharks at Dairy Farmers. If they couldn’t win at home without travelling for two weeks can’t back them here sorry Queenslanders.
