2012 NRL Round 6 Results & Wrap-Up

Six weeks into the NRL Telstra Premiership and it looks like the back-with-force Melbourne Storm are really going to take some beating.

Sitting top of the NRL Ladder on 12 competition points after a huge 42 – 16 win over the Cowboys up in Townsville on Sunday arvo, Melbourne are undefeated in 2012 and really don’t look like slowing down.

Their victory was one of the big ones from NRL Round 6 but there were also plenty of other teams with plenty of other points in them.

On Sunday the Canberra Raiders bounced back after a shock loss to North Queensland at Canberra Stadium last Monday night to beat home the Warriors 32 – 12.

NRL Round 6 also came to a close with another huge victory, this time by the hit-and-miss Manly Sea Eagles who kept the struggling Penrith Panthers scoreless with a 30 – 0 victory at Brookvale Oval.

It was a much needed win by the reigning premiers who handed the Eels their first win of the season last weekend, which was Manly’s third straight loss.

So along with Melbourne which other teams look like genuine NRL premiership contenders early on?

Definitely the Brisbane Broncos.

Many were tipping a shocker from the Lockyer-less Broncs this season, but the depth of their young talent as well as a big season start from veterans Civoniceva, Parker, Wallace, Hodges and crew really have them looking good.

They sit second on the ladder with 10 points, Broncos’ 18 – 14 win over the Wests Tigers, which really flattered the losers, on Friday night being their fourth straight.

Other notable NRL Results from Round 6?

The other big one was really the Crounulla Sharks not only beating St George on Saturday night at Shark Park, but the Dragons weren’t able to score a single point to the Sharkie’s 12.

We tipped it, as many others were likely to have based on the season starts by both of these teams, but are Cronulla contenders or pretenders?

Gallen and Carney both pulled out cracker games which is becoming customary for them this year, and if they keep it up the Sharks can keep that fourth spot on the ladder.
