First-up for the Friday night footy fans a thriller played out in the mud at Suncorp that had everyone on the edge of their seats until the dying moments when a gallant New Zealand Warriors went down by just two points 10 – 6 to the Brisbane Broncos.
Broncos’ fans will have more hope heading into the finals than in previous weeks as they showed true grit to hang on and grab the two points.
Other NRL Round 19 results have seen Brisbane slip back into third spot trailing only Melbourne and the Bulldogs.
Canterbury are making a big run for that minor premiership title and were the other Friday night winners running away 32 – 12 over the wooden spoon favourites, the Parramatta Eels.
The Storm meanwhile are only just hanging onto the number one position in the competition, now equal on points and wins with the Bulldogs, after they lost another match this time 20 – 16 to the North Queensland Cowboys at AAMI Park on Saturday night.
It was a nice win by the Cowboys who are now in sixth spot.
Another Saturday upset went to the Newcastle Knights who bounced back from their Round 18 loss to the Rabbitohs to shut their deep-seated rivals Manly Sea Eagles down 32 – 6 at Hunter Stadium.
The big loss has seen Manly drop right down to seventh.
Meanwhile Gold Coast Titans fans that backed them at their $2.60 price this week enjoyed a nice pay day with the struggling club getting the better of the Raiders, who were unable to back up after their 22 – 18 win over the Dragons from last week.
The Titans posted 38 points to the Green Machine’s 26 in a high points scoring Canberra Stadium clash.
Another highlight of the round was the tight Monday night blockbuster at Allianz Stadium between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters, the Bunnies just getting home 24 – 22.
There was a sense of Groundhog Day about the match after the Tri Colours tied 14 all with the Sharks the previous Monday night in the season’s first NRL draw.
