The 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership enters its 22nd round this weekend and it is going to be a hotly contested affair as teams either eye off or look to hang onto those coveted spots in the Top 8 for the semis.
Round 22 gets underway tonight with a Sydney derby between the Roosters and the Dragons.
The season is pretty much over for the tri-colours down in 14th spot but St George can still sneak into the semis sitting 11th on the ladder.
Upset Round 22 Tip – Eels to beat Tigers Monday night @ $2.37 through bookmaker.com.au
Saturday night is shaping up as a beauty with at triple shot of action, the blockbuster of which is the number one team in the competition, the Canterbury Bulldogs, who will be out to take their consecutive wins into double figures when they play the ninth-placed Knights who smashed the Raiders 36 – 6 last Sunday.
The earlier Saturday game is a strange one form-wise with the Melbourne Storm playing the Panthers at AAMI Park.
Once sitting pretty at the top of the minor premiership race with nine successive wins earlier in the year, Melbourne has been out of sorts dropping to third on the ladder last week after losing to the Dragons, their fifth straight defeat.
The Panthers meanwhile are 15th and fighting with the Eels not to end up with the wooden spoon but do come off back-to-back wins and the Storm have been defeated by worse this year.
The other cracker on Saturday will be the North Queensland Cowboys hosting the Manly Sea Eagles up at Dairy Farmers.
The Cowboys have snuck into fourth on the ladder despite their loss to the Doggies last week while Manly are in sixth position after a narrow win over Penrith by two over in WA last Saturday.
Other NRL Round 22 games to tune in for and enjoy a punt on?
The Broncos will be looking to bounce back after two horrible losses when they play the Raiders down at Canberra Stadium on Sunday afternoon while the second ranked Rabbitohs shoot for their sixth straight when they play the Titans on Sunday at Skilled Park, the Bunnies having annihilated their competition over the past month and a half in a points scoring frenzy.
