This weekend marks two months since the 2014 NRL Telstra Premiership began, Round 8 kicking off with a triple header on Friday including the traditional ANZAC Day clash between the Dragons and the Roosters.
St George Illawarra is an outside chance to get the better of last year’s Premiership winners, the Sydney Roosters, who have dropped right down to 11th on the NRL Ladder this year.
- Tip: Roosters to bounce back and defeat the Dragons 18 – 12
The Dragons are sixth, and both teams lost three on the trot before winning their respective Round 7 matches.
After the 4:00pm arvo clash at Allianz Stadium there are then two Friday night showdowns to enjoy, Melbourne Storm (9th) taking on the out-of-form Warriors (15th) who are looking down the barrel of their fourth straight loss.
- Tip: Storm to salute for the favourites and Warriors to lose their fourth on the trot
The big one though has the Brisbane Broncos, back on track after their two narrow Round 5 and 6 losses were atoned when they easily accounted for the Knights 32 – 6 last Friday night, looking to secure their fifth ranking when they play the Bunnies.
- Tip: Brisbane to beat the Bunnies in an upset
South Sydney Rabbitohs (10th) are the narrow favourites in betting despite their devastatingly close 14 – 15 loss to the Bulldogs last week.
That was Canterbury’s fourth consecutive win and they’re sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, a position they’ll be out to secure on Saturday night when they start favourites against the Knights at ANZ Stadium.
- Tip: Bulldogs to continue their winning streak by shutting down the Knights on Saturday
Other notable Round 8 games include the Cowboys playing the eighth-ranked Parramatta Eels up at North Queensland on Saturday, and the Wests Tigers v Titans clash to round out the week on Sunday arvo at Leichardt Oval.
- Tip: Cowboys to get their season back on track starting with a win over the Eels
It was heartbreak for the Cowboys last Friday night when they went down 21 – 26 in a controversial defeat at the hand of Manly…again.
Meanwhile the Tigers taking on the Gold Coast looks the weekend’s blockbuster as the pair sit second and fourth respectively on the ladder.
- Tip: Titans to fight back after their Round 7 loss with an upset over a tight Tigers outfit
Wests are shooting for win number four following their tight 21 – 18 victory over the Eels last Monday night, while the Gold Coast are looking to keep their top four dreams in play and get back to the business of winning following their streak coming to an end when going down 12 – 14 on Monday night to the Panthers.
