2014 NRL Round 19 Draw – Odds & Preview

With Origin now behind us this week it’s back to a full eight match round as we move into Round 19 of the 2014 NRL Telstra Premiership.

Upset Round 19 Tip: New Zealand Warriors ($2.25) to beat the Broncos in Brisbane on Saturday night through Ladbrokes.com.au

Things kick off with a double header on Friday night the first seeing the Cronulla Sharks play the North Queensland Cowboys.

The Sharks have had a tumultuous few weeks and come off a loss to the Knights from last week.

Plus they lose their hard working captain Paul Gallen to injury which they are really going to feel.

The Cowboys had a bye last week but are 12th on the ladder and needing to quickly learn how to win away from home if they are to salute for the punters here.

Their skipper Johanthan Thurston is back and will don a No. 16 jersey in honour of Alex Mackinnon.

The other Friday night match has the Parramatta Eels and South Sydney Rabbitohs facing off.

Parramatta comes off back-to-back losses including an embarrassing 48 – nil thrashing by the Warriors last week while the Bunnies had a buy, before which they won three on the trot.

South Sydney look the ones to beat boasting an impressive history over the Eels who get back Jarryd Hayne in fullback.

Second on the ladder after the most exciting match of last round, the Penrith Panthers held on in a one point thriller over the Broncos on Monday night and this week play the nearly full strength Sydney Roosters.

Penrith are long in the odds however, the fifth-ranked Roosters tipped to come off their bye fresh and ready to fire with the Top 4 spots to undergo a possible shake-up.

Melbourne Storm went down in another close game 6 – 4 to the Dogs last Saturday and a week later get the home ground advantage at AAMI Park over the Canberra Raiders.

The Green Machine snapped a lengthy losing streak to beat the Titans 36 – 20 last weekend but they shouldn’t be a challenge to the Storm here.

The third Saturday clash happens at Suncorp Stadium where the crowd is being asked to ‘Rise for Alex’ with proceeds of tickets sold going to the brave McKinnon to aid his recovery.

Brisbane are favourites over the Warriors but will have to dig deep after losing their past three on the trot while New Zealand are flying high off three straight wins including last week’s thrashing.

When they last met less than a month ago the Warriors enjoyed a 19 – 10 win in NZ but the Broncos get a chance to turn that around when they play in front of a big Brisbane fan base this time.

On Sunday the Newcastle Knights host the Gold Coast Titans, the former with the form and home ground advantage to support their short odds.

The visitors to Hunter Stadium also play without David Mead and Will Zillman both out with hamstring injuries taking away speed and play from the Gold Coast.

Then the Canterbury Bulldogs take on Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium where the Doggies will be looking to secure their third spot on the ladder.

Round 19 rounds out on Monday night then at WIN Jubilee Oval with the in-form St George Illawarra Dragons shooting for their fourth on the trot up against the table topping Manly Sea Eagles who also have won three from three.

Any other team and Dragons would be shorter in the markets but Manly are the ones to beat here.
