Friday July 17, 2015
Parramatta Eels ($3.15) vs Canterbury Bulldogs ($1.38)
ANZ Stadium (7:35pm)
The Eels have a horror recent record against Canterbury heading into this western Sydney grudge match. They are also missing injured hooker Nathan Peats and fullback Reece Robinson adding to the woes. ANZ Stadium is definitely not the green and blue’s preferred venue either and the Bulldogs are out to atone for a 16 – 8 loss to a determined Broncos outfit last week.
- Tip: Bulldogs by 8
Melbourne Storm ($1.40) vs Penrith Panthers ($3)
AAMI Park (7:35pm)
The Storm come off four losses on the trot but they will be rising for skipper Cameron Smith tonight, the evergreen veteran playing his incredible 300th match. They lost 28 – 14 to NZ last week but are at home at AAMI Park taking on easier rivals in the 11th-ranked Panthers who haven’t won in Melbourne in 10 years.
- Tip: Melbourne by 12
Saturday July 18, 2015
Canberra Raiders ($1.67) vs Cronulla Sutherland Sharks ($2.25)
GIO Stadium (3:00pm)
The 3pm as opposed to evening timeslot will help even things out for the Sharks down in the freezing Canberra, but only marginally. It is 10th plays 9th on the ladder so will be tight and the result could have a big impact on the Top 8. The Green Machine get the home ground advantage for the second straight week after accounting for the Knights last Friday night while the Sharks also are on a high after beating ST George by 20 points last Sunday. The Raiders are without halfback Sam Williams but should still have enough in the tank.
- Tip: Canberra by 4
Newcastle Knights ($1.52) vs Gold Coast Titans ($2.60)
Hunter Stadium (5:30pm)
The new Wooden Spoon favourites Newcastle have dropped a long way from the No. 1 spot they briefly held at the start of the season. They come off a loss to the Raiders last Friday but should be better at Hunter Stadium against the Gold Coast who were smashed by the Sea Eagles last week but who welcome back Greg Bird off an eight-match suspension. Points a plenty here with nearly no defense on offer form either squad but Bird could just give the Titans an edge to make for a value punt.
- Tip: Gold Coast by 6
St George Illawarra Dragons ($3.15) vs South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.38)
Sydney Cricket Ground (7:30pm)
The Red Vs host the Bunnies in this genuine Heritage showdown and are at big odds to hold off Souths after the Dragons got done 28 – 8 by the Sharks last week. The Rabbitohs come off the bye and welcome back Greg Inglis from Origin duty, two big plusses. St George though will be boosted by star fullback Josh Dugan coming back to the squad and think it’ll be tighter than the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au suggest.
- Tip: Dragons by 2
Upset Round 19 Tip: Dragons to hold off the Bunnies on Saturday night at $3.15 through Ladbrokes.com.au
Sunday July 19, 2015
Sydney Roosters ($1.30) vs New Zealand Warriors ($3.60)
Allianz Stadium (2:00pm)
This is arguably the headline game of the round and the Roosters are red hot favourites to hold off the visiting Warriors in Sydney on Sunday afternoon as the third and fourth ranked teams face off. Both were big Round 18 winners with the Tri-Colours winning by a 20-point margin over Penrith last week while the Warriors showed they were a big threat to go all the way to Grand Final Day when defeating Melbourne 28 – 14. This is the first time since 2011 NZ have been in the Top 4, but while they won’t want that to end, it’ll be tough this weekend.
- Tip: Roosters by 12
Brisbane Broncos ($1.15) vs Wests Tigers ($5.75)
Biggest odds of the round! Get $2 for Brisbane to retain top spot on the NRL Ladder with a home game win in front of a big Suncorp Stadium crowd on Sunday afternoon through Ladbrokes.com.au in their promo, the Broncos at $1.15 otherwise as the shorties of the round. Wests Tigers are right down the bottom of the ladder and pay nearly $6 for the upset. This is the first day game at Lang Park for the Broncos and with skipper Justin Hodges back, they can handle the loss of Josh McGuire who is gone for the season and continue their charge to the semis.
- Tip: Broncos by 16
Monday July 20, 2015
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles ($1.83) vs North Queensland Cowboys ($2)
Brookvale Oval (7:00pm)
One of the toughest of the round to pick, the resurgent Sea Eagles are making a late charge for the Top 8 but still have a long way to go. They impressed a week ago in last Monday night’s game to smash the Gold Coast by over 30 points. They need to beat a better team in the Cowboys, but NQ are gutsy even when travelling to Brookvale. It’ll be tight.
- Tip: Manly by 4
