2016 NRL Preview – Round 1

The 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership kicks off this weekend with Round 1 and it’s shaping up as a cracking season with the North Queensland Cowboys defending their crown.

NRL Round 1 Upset Tip: Roosters to beat the Bunnies at $2.15 through Ladbrokes.com.au on Sunday afternoon

The Cowboys beat home fellow Queenslanders the Brisbane Broncos in a golden time extra point thrill last NRL Grand Final in a highlight for the club’s history, but have a tough test ahead to go back-to-back.

Think they can go all the way to Grand Final day and win again? Back them now at Ladbrokes.com.au who have all-in NRL Premiership Winners betting open now and the boys from NQ at $7 behind Brisbane ($4.75) to take it out.

North Queensland paly on Saturday night taking on the Cronulla Sharks and are red hot favourites in betting through Ladbrokes.com.au.

NRL Round 1 kicks off on Thursday night at Parramatta Stadium with the Eels hosting last year’s runners-up the Broncos, and the visitors are the ones to beat with the home squad putting jerseys on five debutants and likely playing without new captain Kieran Foran (hamstring).

Friday night footy sees Manly play the Bulldogs at Brookvale Oval, but one of the biggest games of the NRL Draw in the opening week is the two foundation clubs facing off in a Sydney Derby on Sunday afternoon.

Allianz Stadium hosts the Roosters vs Rabbitohs blockbuster, the Bunnies favourites in betting to defeat Sydney whose pre-season has been a genuine nightmare.

James Maloney and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck have moved on to other clubs and the Tri-Colours line-up on Sunday without Mitchell Pearce who has also been demoted as co-captain, Boyd Cordner and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the Rabbitohs either leading up to the first whistle blow of their 2016 season, the return of Sam Burgess throwing a few ripples through the squad.

Round 1 comes to a close on Monday night with the Melbourne Storm, who finished last season just one win from a Grand Final appearance, playing St George at AAMI Park.

The Dragons were surprise inclusions in last year’s NRL finals and are unsurprisingly at big odds for game one here against a tried-and-true Storm outfit that will have Billy Slater back in the mix for the first time since State of Origin Game II last year.
