After a runaway 53 – nil win over the Knights last Saturday night, last season’s runners-up the Brisbane Broncos are the only team in the 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership to head into Round 8 with six wins on the board to date.
Upset NRL Round 8 Tip: Manly to defeat the Knights @ $2.80 through Ladbrokes.com.au on Monday afternoon!
The NRL Ladder-leading Broncos play in this weekend’s opener when things kick off on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane hosting the eighth-ranked Rabbitohs.
The Bunnies come off a big loss to the Cowboys going down 44 – 18 up in Townsville where they just didn’t show up, and could be in for another embarrassing defeat as the underdogs in their second Queensland game in as many weeks.
While the home squad are dominant favourites in NRL betting, they have lost their past three against South Sydney in Brisbane so have that stat to overcome.
Saturday is host to three games in Round 8, the highlight of which has the reigning Premiers North Queensland enjoying another home game against the Eels in a second vs fourth super clash at 1300 Smiles Stadium.
The Cowboys are flying and looked very professional last week, while Parramatta enjoyed a 22 – 10 success over Manly at Brookvale last Thursday night.
Off the field it has been turmoil for the Eels who could lose eight competition points for the salary-cap scandal meaning they really need to keep on winning, which they aren’t fancied to do here despite their win over NQ earlier in the season.
The Sharks and Penrith sit third and 10th respectively on the Ladder, but both look genuine NRL Finals contenders already and face off on Sunday afternoon.
Cronulla are playing at home and are shooting for five straight wins, a nice record from one of the season’s forgotten clubs who are flying under the radar.
ANZAC Day on Monday is host to three big games, including the traditional Dragons vs Roosters Anzac Day Cup at Allianz Stadium.
Both clubs are underperforming this season, especially wooden spoon favourites Sydney who have won just one of their seven games so far.
