We more into Round 9 of the 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership this week with the first of the Test matches set to take place next weeks.
Upset NRL Round 9 Tip: Dragons to defeat the Warriors @ $2.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au on Sunday
Teams are unaffected by representative selection for this week’s footy fixtures however and things get underway with Thursday night footy at ANZ Stadium between the Bunnies and the Tigers who were both well beaten last round.
South Sydney were defeated 30 – 8 by hot competition leaders the Broncos in Brisbane, while Wests were disgraced 60 – 6 by the Raiders down in Canberra adding to the Tigers on and off field woes early in the season.
On Friday night an intriguing match between fifth and sixth takes place at the same stadium with the Eels taking on the Bulldogs, Parramatta out to atone for their 32 – 16 loss to the Cowboys last week.
The Eels are favourites but have won only one of their past nine games against the Bulldogs opening things up value-wise for the punters.
Three Saturday games are on the cards, including a Wooden Spoon showdown at Allianz Stadium between the Roosters (16th) and the Knights (15th) who have been the two most disappointing teams in the first half of 2016.
Sydney welcome back the likes of Mitchell Pearce, Boyd Cordner and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and all will be out to atone for time lost.
The best of the Saturday fixtures looks to be the Manly vs North Queensland clash at Brookvale, the Sea Eagles facing much tougher opposition to that Newcastle put up when Manly won 26 – 10 on Monday night.
The Cowboys shoot for five wins on the trot and will be hard to beat, even with the home side welcoming back the much-missed Daly Cherry-Evans last week.
The blockbuster of Round 9 though is saved until last with the fourth-ranked Sharks host the Broncos in Cronulla on Sunday afternoon, both clubs coming off fourth consecutive wins.
It’s a beauty of a clash with the Sharks equal second on wins alone with the Cowboys and Storm after their 20 – 18 win over Penrith last weekend.
Brisbane meanwhile are the current competition favourites and the only seven-time winners from eight games played for the year heading into this tough-to-call contest.
