There are only a few weeks between now and the NRL Finals with Round 23 of the Telstra Premiership kicking off tonight with a Dogs vs Manly clash at ANZ Stadium.
Upset NRL Round 23 Tip: Manly to beat the Bulldogs @ $2.85 on Thursday night through Ladbrokes.com.au!
The Doggies are shorties in NRL betting as Des Hasler’s boys, fresh off an easy win over the Knights (28 – 14), look to stay in the Top 4.
Manly meanwhile suffered a devastatingly one point loss last Friday night going down 10 – 9 to the never-say-die Eels to end a little winning streak. They are now 11th on the NRL Ladder and an upset win here can keep their finals dreams alive.
Friday night footy this week kicks off at Suncorp Stadium with the sixth-placed Brisbane Broncos looking to capitalise on their 12 – 8 win over the Dragons from last round when hosting Parramatta.
While Brisbane are all the rage in betting, the stats show they have won just eight of their past 13 when starting favourites at the old Lang Park. Still, the odds are juicy on the slippery Eels.
Saturday’s first is at Campbelltown Stadium with a close match-up between the Tigers (9th) and Titans (10th) who the bookies have at even money. Formerly in the Top 8, the Gold Coast are out to bounce back from the 10 point loss to the Warriors last Sunday, while Wests are in high spirits on the back of the shock victory over the Cowboys.
Jarryd Hanye’s big return didn’t help the Gold Coast last week, but if he fits in a little smoother here the Titans can get a few over the Tigers.
New Zealand are after another win this week and shouldn’t have too many troubles against the down-and-out Bunnies at home at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday night, before the Dragons take on the second-ranked Sharks.
Cronulla are best in betting to fight for that top spot on the table again after their disappointing 14 – 30 loss to the Raiders last weekend that ended an incredible winning streak. When they took on St George earlier in the season they did it without breaking a sweat (30-2), but they’ll have to dig deeper for the rematch with the Dragons welcoming back Josh Dugan and Tyson Frizell.
Penrith play at Hunter Stadium as the visitors on Sunday afternoon, but should be too hard to beat as they play the comp’s worst of the season Newcastle.
The 15th-ranked Roosters then host the Cowboys in Sunday’s second, Sydney coming off a 10 point loss to an outstanding Penrith outfit from Monday night while the reigning premiers will be looking to play better than their shock effort against the Tigers.
Round 23 finishes up in the week’s blockbusters with Canberra hosting the top-ranked Melbourne Storm at GIO Stadium on Monday night, both sides shooting for a seventh win on the trot.
The Raiders are the definite surprise package of 2016 and the big win over Cronulla put them right in the frame for a genuine premiership fight this year, while Melbourne only held on by one last Saturday against Souths.
