NRL Round 10

Canterbury Bulldogs ($1.62) vs North Queensland Cowboys ($2.35)

Thursday May 11, 2017 (7:50pm) – ANZ Stadium

The Bulldogs were last seen getting the better of the Raiders a fortnight ago and start clear favourites against the Cowboys who struggled in their bit 26 – 6 loss to the Eels up in NQ HQ in Round 9. JT (shoulder) is out with injury again following the Anzac Test and that explains the odds. Canterbury are in good form with four wins from their past five played this season, but if they’re going to choke playing any club it’ll be the Cowboys. NQ have won the latest four between these two sides, but without their skipper against the big Bulldogs forward pack their streak is likely to come to an end.

St George Illawarra Dragons ($3.05) vs Cronulla Sharks ($1.40)

Friday May 12, 2017 (6:00pm) – Jubilee Oval

This is second v third, but the Sharks head the betting as they head to Jubilee Oval to play St George. It’s been a tough week for Cronulla with all the off-field dramas at the club, but they’re a team whose played in the face of controversy plenty of times. They were last seen beating the Tigers, while the Dragons have lost their past two games to the Roosters and Storm. It was St George on top when these two met earlier this year, but they are without Dugan for this. Jason Nightingale is a good No. 1 replacement however there’s still a weakened structure and if it comes down to goal-kicking the home squad is in trouble.

Wests Tigers ($2.05) vs South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.80)

Friday May 12, 2017 (7:50pm) – ANZ Stadium

Both of these clubs are right at the wrong end of the ladder and the NRL odds are tight. Wests recent record shows a Win-Loss-Win-Loss, so that means they’re in for the 2 competition points here. The Bunnies have been a big disappoint all season loosing GI early on and are looking down the barrel of their fourth straight loss. Despite this, the odds favour Souths but the punters won’t take much confidence as the club has only won three of their past seven as favourites. The Tigers definitely look the value in this throw-a-dart affair.

Penrith Panthers ($1.70) vs New Zealand Warriors ($2.20)

Saturday May 13, 2017 (3:00pm) – Pepper Stadium

The Panthers had so much promise on paper pre-season, but haven’t lived up to the hype and are second last on the table. They’ve posted just two wins so far and were last seen getting smashed by the Broncos in Round 9. The Warriors meanwhile beat the Chooks in a one-point affair two weeks back at home and now travel over looking for back-to-back wins to keep the Top 8 in sight. Despite Penrith having lost their last five games, they’re the favourites here with NZ notorious for choking across the Tasman and playing consistent footy. The Kiwis are yet to win away and that’s enough to stick with the Panthers here.

Melbourne Storm ($1.38) vs Gold Coast Titans ($3.15)

Saturday May 13, 2017 (5:30pm) – Suncorp Stadium

Melbourne overtook the Dragons at the top of the table after their Round 9 victory over St George and face easier competition in the Titans in Brisbane for their “home” game to kick off the double header at Suncorp. That said, surely the Gold Coast are over the odds again? The Titans continued to be ignored by the bookies but they’ve won their past two games and even though they only played the Knights last time out, their 38 – 8 victory was still impressive. Don’t think they’ll get the better of the professional Storm outfit, but it’ll be closer than the markets suggest especially with Melbourne being without Jesse Bromwich.

Manly Sea Eagles ($2.40) vs Brisbane Broncos ($1.60)

Saturday May 13, 2017 (7:50pm) – Suncorp Stadium

The headline event on Saturday night is the Broncos taking on Manly, who have opted to take this “home” game against the local Brisbane outfit. The Broncos are now in fourth spot and out to retain that Top 4 position with a fifth win on the trot here. The Sea Eagles meanwhile are back into sixth after winning their last two including the huge 46 – 8 annihilation of the Bunnies in Round 9. As the punters’ pick at this venue, the Broncos have saluted in nine of their past 13. There’s a lot of question marks that will help determine the result of this match including whether or not Jimmy the Jet is right to play for Brisbane. Strap in for a thriller, but at Suncorp it really is tough to bet against the Broncos.

Newcastle Knights ($4.80) vs Canberra Raiders ($1.20)

Sunday May 14, 2017 (2:00pm) – McDonald Jones Stadium

Big odds offered on the Wooden Spoon favourites Newcastle again and again they don’t look any real hope of posting their second season win. They have been absolutely woeful and home ground advantage means nothing for a club that’s simply not showing up. They play Canterbury who have lost their past two straight, including the 16 – 10 loss to Canterbury last time out. This is easier for the Green Machine and there’s little value in their price for the win, so take them at 13+.

Sydney Roosters ($1.52) vs Parramatta Eels ($2.60)

Sunday May 14, 2017 (4:00pm) – Allianz Stadium

The Chooks are still fifth on the ladder despite their shock loss to the Warriors over in New Zealand on April 30. There was only one point in it and they’re tipped to bounce back here returning home against the Eels, who showed the Cowboys what was what by a 20 point winning margin last time out. There’s little separating these two here and the scoreboard should reflect that. The stats for Sydney as home favourites stack up and they’ve saluted in four of their past five in that scenario. Stick with the Tri-Colours.
